Grant Gilchrist, one of the many success stories of the club's EDP programme, became part of the Edinburgh Rugby squad in season 2010/11.
Before his career kicked off, Gilchrist had been unlucky with injury, returning to full fitness in the summer of 2011. the timing was therefore perfect for the lock to benefit from 18 weeks' involvement with the Canterbury RFU network as one of the recipients of the 2011 John MacPhail scholarship.
The big lock returned from the summer season in the southern-hemisphere to hit the ground running in the black and red and went on to start 23 of 26 appearances in his debut season, including starts in all but one of the club's historic Heineken Cup campaign.
The powerful lock forward was schooled at Lornshill Academy and received his grounding in the game at Alloa RFC. He has since moved to Stirling County, and has represented Scotland at under-18, under-19 and under-20 level.
Away from rugby, Gilchrist has studied chemical engineering and benefitted from an apprenticeship with oil giants BP.
