On enjoying training

I am loving it. It's probably the best atmosphere and group of guys I have been involved with in my career.

On the training pitch everybody expresses themselves and we really enjoy it. You guys can see that when we are on the pitch as well. The times you play your best rugby is when you enjoy what you are doing. Everybody buys into the plan Mike has.

On getting into game mode

Just because we enjoy training and enjoy being on the pitch that competitive nature never goes away. It is still there in your head or in the back of your head so if you are not on the top of your game every training session, every week on the pitch there is always someone at your back fighting for the jersey.

You can never let that down but i think it is good for the squad as well and fighting in a sense for the same jersey and being competitive.

On going top of the URC

It is massive for us and we have a bit of momentum at the moment and confidence wise it is a lot better.

I won't say it will make us comfortable in any sense because there has not been anything said in meetings about us being first on the log. Obviously everybody knows it but we won't think we are comfortable now, we are first on the log.

For us we take every game as the next challenge and we try not to look too far ahead and concentrate on the task in hand.

On confidence in Europe

The Saracens win was big for us instilling a bit of belief and confidence as well to go over there and win that meant a great deal to us and kick the competition off in that manner is really something special.

In my career, apart from the Currie Cup final back in South Africa that is the biggest win i have ever been part of.

On competition for places

There is plenty of competition but for me it stays between the four lines. I won't say there is anything outside that. We are all great mates and we get along quite well so it is quite nice having them.

Especially someone like WP Nel. We can learn a lot from him and what he brings to the table in the light of all the experience he has. If one does not take the opportunity to learn from him you would be quite stupid to do that.

If you ask anyone you would rather be in that starting position. That is what we strive for and work hard for every single day. At the end of the day it is not my personal game that matters. It is what is best for the team at that moment.

I firmly believe that the coaches make a decision at the end of the week which is better for the team with their selection, whether it is impact players or having the best players start. I definitely prefer starting than sitting on the bench.
