Schoeman voted Scottish Building Society POTM for April
Pierre Schoeman was today voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month for April.
Schoeman played a significant role as Edinburgh Rugby claimed big wins against Section Paloise and Bath in the EPCR Challenge Cup, before beating Zebre and running Ulster close in the URC, with every match being hosted at DAM Health Stadium.
The rampant loosehead was at his brilliant best, regularly grabbing games by the scruff of the neck to put Edinburgh on the front foot, earning two Player of the Match awards in the process.
With the game on the line against Bath, Schoeman seized the initiative, barrelling through the English Premiership side's defence, before backing up his effort to score a vital try.
The prop followed up his heroics a week later, swinging the momentum in Edinburgh's favour with a crucial score against Zebre. He then closed out the month with an all-action display against Ulster, playing the full 80 minutes, making 99 metres in a bruising display.
On winning the award, Schoeman said: “I’m absolutely honoured to pick up April’s Scottish Building Society Player of the Month and I’m truly thankful to all those fans that voted for me to win the award.
“I’m really enjoying my rugby at the moment and hopefully that’s showing in my performances on the park.
“We were really disappointed we couldn’t get the wins against Ulster and Wasps but I think it’s clear, as a squad, we’re leaving everything on the field. We now can’t wait represent our fans in the 1872 cup derby."
Sponsored and backed by Scottish Building Society, the initiative sees Edinburgh’s Main Club Partner donate £500 to Schoeman's charity of choice, It's Good 2 Give.
“I selected It’s Good 2 Give as my chosen charity because they are Official Partners of the club and I’ve seen first-hand the amazing work they do in the local community in supporting sick children and their families too,” he added.
“I just want to thank Scottish Building Society for their support of the Player of the Month initiative and for the amazing £500 donation going towards It’s Good 2 Give.”
Paul Denton, Scottish Building Society CEO said: “Pierre Schoeman is a very worthy winner of April’s player of the month and, as we gear up to the crucial final games of the year, we very much hope his good form continues as we move closer to the knock-out games in the URC.
“Scottish Building Society is a mutual, which means we are committed to giving back and supporting local communities. This is why we have recognised Pierre’s achievements on the pitch with a donation to his preferred charity, It’s Good 2 Give. It’s Good 2 Give works in partnership with hospitals and patient organisations to deliver the assistance that young cancer patients and their families need.
“They have funded two full-time psychologist posts in Edinburgh to support mental health and aim to expand provision to Glasgow, recognising the importance of mental well-being in the patient journey, which we are of course happy to support.”
Mike Blair, Edinburgh Head Coach said: "Pierre has been hugely impressive in the last month. You can hear it in the crowd every time he touches the ball, he's a real fan-favourite.
"He puts in a huge amount of work around the pitch and shows so much physicality and commitment, both in defence and attack.
“He's a big player for us and really led from the front throughout April."
