Edinburgh in last 16 of revised Champions Cup
Edinburgh Rugby have qualified for the last 16 of the Heineken Champions Cup as EPCR today announced revised tournament formats to conclude the 2020-21 European season.
Both tournaments will resume with Rounds of 16 matches on the weekend of 2/3/4 April, with the knockout stages continuing as Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and the scheduled Marseille Finals on EPCR's allocated weekends in April and May.
The Rounds of 16 and Quarter-Final matches in both tournaments will now, however, be decided by draws that will take place on Tuesday 9 March.
With Edinburgh Rugby having finished in the top eight of Conference A - in sixth place, with five points - [see standings here], the capital side have therefore qualified for the last 16 of the Heineken Champions Cup and will be included in the draw on Tuesday 9 March.
For the purposes of the draw, clubs from the league cannot be drawn against each other, however, clubs from from either pool can be drawn against each other.
Clubs that won both pool fixtures prior to the suspension of the tournament are guaranteed a home draw in the Round of 16 (Racing 92, Leinster, Wasps, Boredeaux-Begles, Munster).
The clubs that are not drawn against those aforementioned 'two-win' sides will have their opponent and home/away status determined as part of the next month's draw.
