Get to Know: Mesu Kunavula
Take some time to get to know our latest signing. Fijian sevens star Mesu Kunavula.
Full name: Mesulame Kunavula
Age: 24
Position: Lock/ back-row
Previous clubs: Nadroga Rugby, Fiji Sevens

When did you realise you wanted to be rugby player?
“When I was schooling, I didn’t reach where I wanted to in terms of education. So, I ended up moving back home with my parents. I spoke to my dad and confessed that I wanted a career in rugby. So, I kept on fighting hard, training and praying that I would one day become a good rugby player.”
What did you do before becoming professional?
“When I didn’t make the Fijian Sevens squad in my early years I joined the police force in Fiji. We had many departments, but I was in the traffic and charges area.”
How would you describe yourself as a player?
“I’d definitely say a player like Leone Nakarawa. I’ve been watching clips of him for the past two years. I’d love to base my game of him, with all his offloads and carrying. Then I’d say I’d like Bill Mata as well. I would definitely want to reach his level.
What have been your first impressions of the city?
“It’s obviously my first time here in Scotland. Everything is a bit strange for me at the moment. I’ve come to a big city that’s not like Fiji at all. Everyone speak English here so I’m really learned a lot. But I’ve loved it so far and I can’t wait to live in Scotland and Edinburgh.
