Fans View: Newcastle 2018
As part of our #CapitalClassic series, we've asked our supporters to share their favourite memories of each memorable fixture! This week, we get the fans view from 2018's thrilling win over Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park!
Jonny Rowe: "I traveled down with my cousin for the day. I remember in build-up, Tom May seemed to think Newcastle would win pretty easily as they sent an under strength side to BT Murrayfield the week before and this game would get their season back on track...
"We met a few geordies who echoed this, but of course I respectfully disagreed! This was the first game that I really remember an Edinburgh crowd being really vocal against any opposition, bar Glasgow, and the first time I heard the Ed-in-Bruh chant.
"For me this was the game that showed Europe that Edinburgh were a serious outfit and demanded respect. Great game, great all day sesh, great patter from the locals and great curry... can we do it again?"
Great atmosphere and top drawer support
Mark McDonald: “I travelled down with my grandpa, wife and middle son. We left early and spent the day and drove back at night. This was our first Edinburgh away game and to come away with the win was incredible. Was a fantastic experience and a stadium I would love to visit again!
Keith Richardson: “Was a great day all round. Good company on journey, great atmosphere during game. A win then good times after game in great stadium!”
Graeme Somerville: “It was never in any doubt were not going to beat them, but we never really clicked into gear until the second half. Always been a good wee stadium, but our away support was top drawer!"
A cracking day!
William Henderson: “This game proved to be a good day out overall. The amount of supporters that made the two and a half hour journey south (myself included) to cheer the boys on in what could be considered as a city derby, topped off with Duhan crossing over in the corner for the winning try made us all the more eager to see the boys do similar damage in the 1872 cup the following week!”
Rona Train: "What a fabulous day! Bus trip down (and back) was fun and the hospitality from the Falcons fans in the clubhouse after the game was impressive. And as for the game - what a cracker! This was the first time I felt we’d really come together with our new chant and we drowned out the Newcastle fans as we urged our boys on to a great win. Cracking day!"
