Edinburgh side named for Wasps Quarter-Final

The Edinburgh Rugby team to face Wasps in tomorrow afternoon’s EPCR Challenge Cup Quarter-Final at DAM Health Stadium has today been named by Head Coach Mike Blair (Saturday 7 May, kick-off 12.30pm) – live on BT Sport.

The team selection includes four changes to the side that faced Ulster last weekend as Edinburgh look to reach the final four of European competition for the first time since 2015.

In the forwards, hooker Adam McBurney get his opportunity up front in place of the injured Stuart McInally, while Harrison Courtney is selected at loosehead prop, with Pierre Schoeman named on the bench.

A try-scorer against Bath in the Round of 16, young flanker Connor Boyle (22) starts at openside in place of Hamish Watson in the only other change to the pack.

In the backs, club centurion Chris Dean starts at inside centre in place of the injured James Lang after an impressive 78-minute performance from the bench against Ulster last Saturday.

Ahead of the knockout clash, Blair, said: “We’ve spoken a lot this week about our journey to this point in the season and the hard work that has gone in to get us into the last eight of Europe.

“Looking back at the games against Saracens and Bath, those great wins were built on a desire to play for the club and your teammates, and taking pride in pulling on the Edinburgh jersey and representing the city.

“We know that Wasps are a quality opponent, and Saturday is going to be another huge test, but it’s one we relish. We love playing for our fans and we feed off their noise and support which will be important as ever this weekend.”

An unchanged back-three sees Jaco van der Walt continue at full-back with internationalists Damien Hoyland – who this week penned a new deal with the club – and Emiliano Boffelli selected on the wings.

Centre Mark Bennett – who has four tries in his last three starts – links-up with Dean in midfield, while Scotland duo Blair Kinghorn (stand-off) and Ben Vellacott (scrum-half) continue at half-back.

Tighthead prop WP Nel packs down alongside McBurney and Courtney up front, as locks Grant Gilchrist and Jamie Hodgson once again combine in the second-row

The inclusion of Boyle at openside is the only alteration to an otherwise unchanged back-row as Luke Crosbie (blindside flanker) and Magnus Bradbury (number 8) complete the pack.
