Edinburgh Rugby side named for derby decider

The Edinburgh Rugby team to face Glasgow Warriors in tomorrow night’s 1872 Cup and Scottish x Italian Shield decider at BT Murrayfield was today named by Head Coach Mike Blair (Saturday 21 May, kick-off 6.30pm) – live on Premier Sports.

Scotland trio Darcy Graham (wing), Dave Cherry (hooker) and Hamish Watson (back-row) all return to the capital side’s starting XV as Graham and Cherry recover from respective injuries that kept them out of the EPCR Challenge Quarter-Final against Wasps.

Elsewhere, Ben Muncaster (back-row) and James Lang (centre) are once again fit and named among the replacements alongside Marshall Sykes (lock), who returns after serving a two-week ban.

Over 22,000 tickets have already been sold for one of the most highly-anticipated intercity derbies in the professional era, with the winners of the 1872 Cup, Scottish x Italian Shield, and thus Champions Cup qualification, all set to be decided tomorrow night.

Head Coach Mike Blair said: “Intercity derbies are always special occasions and tomorrow night is massive for this club, our group of players and the supporters who’ve backed us brilliantly throughout the season.

“We’ve talked a lot this week about going out and enjoying the game, but doing so by putting everything into the performance and playing for the jersey for the full 80 minutes. We want to be sharp in our skills, detail and physicality from the get-go.

“Playing at BT Murrayfield is always a special experience and a lot of our younger guys have never played in a Test match atmosphere before, which tomorrow night most certainly will be with so much on the line.

“We’re hoping for a massive crowd at BT Murrayfield and want the city behind us. The more support and noise our fans bring, the more of an occasion it becomes. It’s going to be a proper derby atmosphere.”

In the back-three, Argentine internationalist Emiliano Boffelli switches to full-back with Graham returning on the wing alongside fellow Scotland flyer, Damien Hoyland.

Centres Chris Dean and Mark Bennett – who both penned new deals this week – once again link-up in midfield as Scotland duo Ben Vellacott (scrum-half) and Blair Kinghorn (stand-off) continue at half-back.

Up front, hooker Cherry returns to partner props WP Nel and Pierre Schoeman as Scotland locks Grant Gilchrist and Jamie Hodgson form the remainder of the tight-five.

The inclusion of British & Irish Lion Watson at openside flanker is the only alteration to an otherwise unchanged back-row, as Luke Crosbie (blindside flanker) and Magnus Bradbury (number 8) complete the pack.
