Edinburgh Rugby raise a glass to Uhuru partnership
Edinburgh Rugby today raise a glass to Uhuru who become the club’s Official Rum Partner and kit sponsor ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The capital-based independent bottlers have signed a two-year sponsorship deal and will have their logo featured on the club’s home and alternate Macron match kit, which is set to be revealed later this summer.
As part of the sponsorship, Uhuru Rum will also develop a new rum cocktail bar based in the DAM Health Stadium fan zone where supporters will be able to grab a refreshing Uhuru-based drink on matchdays in the Scottish capital.
On joining the Edinburgh Rugby sponsor family, Uhuru Co-Founder Alex Harrison, said: “We’re incredibly proud to sponsor Edinburgh Rugby, one of the most recognisable and historic rugby clubs in the world.
“Uhuru is our passion project and was created to drive positive environmental change. In sponsoring Edinburgh Rugby, we’re achieving that goal while raising awareness at an international level.
“We wish the team the best for the upcoming season and can’t wait to interact with the Edinburgh fans on matchday and, most importantly of all, let them try Uhuru rum!”
Created and bottled by the city’s Young Spirits team, Uhuru means ‘freedom’ in Swahili, with its origins arising from the local rum producer founders’ trips to Africa, where safari adventures turned into a passion for wildlife conservation.
With a collection of safari-inspired spirits that support positive environmental change, every bottle of Uhuru sees 10% of net sales donated to their charity partner, Tusk, a British non-profit organisation set up for the protection of threatened wildlife species across Africa.
Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director, Douglas Struth, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Uhuru to our sponsor family and we’ll take great pride in carrying their logo on our match kit as we compete in the United Rugby Championship and return to the Heineken Champions Cup this coming season.
“Uhuru are a local business with roots firmly embedded in the city – a perfect fit for us as club. They are also young and ambitious, with great shared values between our two organisations.
“It’s set to be another hugely exciting season in the Scottish capital and we can’t wait to have the backing of Uhuru as the 2022/23 campaign gets started in the coming months.”
