Edinburgh Rugby join Doddie Aid

Edinburgh Rugby have joined this month’s Doddie Aid Inter-District Challenge, with the capital side’s playing squad donating and contributing towards the Team Edinburgh total.

The Edinburgh squad – including all 23 players involved in this Saturday’s Guinness PRO14 clash with Zebre at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi - have got behind the challenge, with the club set to donate a total raised by the club’s playing group.

The club’s participation in the Inter-District Challenge will see the combined miles ran by each player in the build-up to and during the match in Parma – logged using GPS data – added to the Team Edinburgh total.

Edinburgh Rugby and Scotland star Hamish Watson – who has been part of Team Edinburgh since the challenge began earlier this month – has backed the club joining Doddie Aid, and said:

“It’s absolutely brilliant that we’ve been able to come together as a club, and as players, and contribute towards Team Edinburgh.

“The Doddie Aid Challenge has been hugely inspiring for all of us and has already raised an incredible amount of money towards MND research.

“We hope to play a small role in driving Team Edinburgh forward and hopefully we can help inspire others to donate towards to the charity.”

Team Edinburgh captain Davy Zyw has also welcomed the club’s contribution, and added: “I’m over the moon to have the full support of Edinburgh Rugby. It’s been a lot of fun to work with Hamish [Watson] on the management side since the get-go.

“He’s been driving Team Edinburgh and Doddie Aid forward with as much prowess as he is known for on the pitch.

“The whole campaign has been a terrific success so far, but we have a long way to go. Not only to beat the other district teams (especially Glasgow) on the Doddie Aid scoreboard, but in terms of raising the profile and vital funds for research into this terrible disease.

“However, I know with the full support of Edinburgh Rugby and the club’s supporters, we are going to do great things heading into the second half of the Doddie Aid challenge. Let’s smash some miles, raise its profile and kick MND into touch!”
