Edinburgh Rugby calls on capital fans to make a stand

Edinburgh Rugby’s URC clash against Ulster this Saturday is on target to be the club’s first capacity crowd at its new ground, DAM Health Stadium – with standing room only left in the ground.

Limited availability behind the goals in the terraces of the Murrayfield and Riverside Stands is all that remains in the 7,774 capacity stadium, with all seats around the ground now sold out* for the vital clash between the two sides, two points apart in fifth and seventh place with two games to go.

Just four points separate second from eighth place going into the penultimate round, such is the intensely competitive nature of the inaugural URC championship.

Saturday’s match against the Northern Irishmen and the end-of-season finale against inter-city rivals Glasgow Warriors (currently sixth) at BT Murrayfield (Saturday 21 May) will therefore be decisive in the race for the URC playoffs and all-important home advantage.

Edinburgh Rugby players have made the most of home advantage in the more intimate stadium and are so far unbeaten when playing in front of an average crowd of around 6,000.

With this season’s record crowd already surpassed with five days to go, Head Coach Mike Blair today called on supporters to fill the ground for the crunch clash.

Blair said: “We love playing in DAM Health Stadium and that’s down to our passionate fans who’ve backed the team since day one and made our new home such a cauldron of noise and support.

“With a record crowd already surpassed for Saturday’s crucial match against Ulster, it’s set to be another electric night in the DAM Health, so we’re now calling on our supporters to go one step further and help us reach a full house.

“I’d encourage fans to snap up the remaining tickets in the ground and pack out the standing terraces which are crucial areas of support when pushing for the try line or defending our own.

“The noise and atmosphere our supporters create on match night truly makes the difference. We can’t wait to once again represent our fans and the city this Saturday.”
