Edinburgh and Tickets For Troops team up for 1872 Cup derby
Edinburgh have this Christmas teamed up with Tickets For Troops to provide 250 local members of the armed forces with free tickets to this month’s 1872 Cup match against Glasgow Warriors at BT Murrayfield.
The 250 troops – who are based at barracks located throughout the city and Lothians – will attend the annual festive fixture free of charge as Edinburgh take on their age-old rivals Glasgow Warriors at Scotland’s national stadium on Saturday 28 December, kick-off 3pm.
With close to 12,000 tickets already sold for the 1872 Cup second leg, it set to be another enthralling inter-city encounter, and Edinburgh Rugby’s Managing Director Douglas Struth can’t wait to see an additional 250 uniformed supporters get behind the capital club, via the Tickets For Troops initiative.
“We’re delighted to be working with Tickets For Troops again this season and it’s brilliant that the club are able to once again provide members of the armed forces with tickets for what is set to be a brilliant day of rugby at BT Murrayfield,” said Struth.
“The 1872 Cup is a special fixture, and it’s made special because of the fantastic support we receive from fans located in Edinburgh and across Scotland.
“With that, it’s only right that we can give back to those who serve this country, and with the brilliant work of the Tickets For Troops initiative, we’ve been able to do that this Christmas.”
Edinburgh Rugby will be looking to retain the trophy for the second straight season having lifted the historic 1872 Cup in both 2017/18 and 2018/19.
On troops attending this year’s 1872 Cup match at BT Murrayfield, Tickets For Troops Director of Operations William Campbell-Lamerton, said:
“Rugby has been a massive supporter of Tickets For Troops since we launched a decade ago and it’s fantastic that Edinburgh Rugby has maintained this level of generosity, especially for such an exciting derby clash as the 1872 Cup!
“We are thrilled to offer our members the opportunity to take their loved ones to BT Murrayfield over the festive season. We are both delighted and grateful for the support offered to us and our members."
