Crosbie to skipper Scotland A in Chile

Luke Crosbie will captain Scotland A against Chile this Saturday (25 June, kick-off 9pm BST) in the first match of this year’s tour of South America.

The former Livingston RFC and Currie Chieftains back-row is one of 11 Edinburgh players named in the matchday squad as Matt Currie (centre) and Ben Muncaster (back-row) both start to make their 'A' international debuts.

Up front, Dave Cherry starts at hooker while lock Jamie Hodgson is named in the second-row.

In the backs, Damien Hoyland returns to the international stage on the wing and will wear the thistle for the first time since 2017.

Lock Glen Young is named among the replacements and will also earn his first 'A' cap if called upon, with Pierre Schoeman (loosehead), Magnus Bradbury (back-row), Blair Kinghorn (stand-off) and Mark Bennett (centre) also selected on the bench.

The matchday 23 is made up of all Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh players along with Scarlets’ Javan Sebastian. This is due to the match falling outside of the international window.

Chile will use the match as preparation for their Rugby World Cup play-offs against USA after beating Canada last year in an Americas qualifying match. This will be the first time Chile have played a Six Nations team in more than 60 years.

Following the match in Santiago, Gregor Townsend’s touring party will travel to Argentina for a three-test series.

Scotland A were last in action in February 2014 at Scotstoun Stadium in a match against England Saxons where Byron McGuigan scored Scotland’s only try in a 16-16 draw.
