Boyle voted February's Scottish Building Society Player of the Month

Hot-shot flanker Connor Boyle was today voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month for February.

The flanker has seized his opportunity with Edinburgh’s international forwards on Scotland duty, impressing with a series of energetic and abrasive performances through the month.

Boyle has already developed a reputation as a player who is dangerous over the ball, and added to that in some style, regularly putting his body on the line to win turnovers.

The former Stewart’s Melville man stood up to be counted in the face of a tough series of away fixtures, growing into the month before roaring into a breakout display in the side’s win against Connacht a week ago.

On winning the award, Connor said: "I think if someone told me that I would win player of the month, even a month ago, I wouldn't have believed it. So to have done that, i'm so happy.

"One of the most important things is that the fans voted for me. Being a fan myself, for them to have seen me as worthy of getting player of the month is incredible, and i'm very grateful.

This helps get my confidence to good levels, but this is just the start."

Sponsored and backed by Scottish Building Society, the initiative sees Edinburgh’s Main Club Partner generously donate £500 to Boyle’s charity of choice, the Disasters Emergency Committee.

The Disasters Emergency Committee is an umbrella group of UK charities which coordinates and launches collective appeals to raise funds to provide emergency aid and rapid relief to people caught up in disasters and humanitarian crises around the world – including support to the people of Ukraine.

On the donation, Boyle said: “The ongoing war in Ukraine has shocked everyone at Edinburgh Rugby and I’m glad that we can support those who have been affected.

We’ve spoken about the issue a lot as a squad, and we’re all keen to show as much support as possible.”

Head Coach Mike Blair added: "I’m really happy for Connor, he’s really taken his opportunity this month, and is a worthy winner of February’s Player of the Month.

"It’s exciting to see guys pushing on when the international players are away, and it adds to the competition for the jersey when the Scotland players come back into the mix.

"Connor has added a lot of energy during this period, and has really impressed around the park, particularly with his work over the ball."

Paul Denton, Chief Executive Officer for Scottish Building Society, said: “Connor is a very worthwhile winner for his strong performances this month. He has seized his opportunity with many of the forward players away on international duty so it is a very well earned award.

“Scottish Building Society is a mutual which mean that we are committed to giving back and supporting communities and this is why we have recognised Connor’s achievements on the pitch with a donation to his preferred charity.

“His selected charity, DEC and its work in helping the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, is a very worthwhile cause which we are happy to donate to on his behalf.”
