Blair: "We’re comfortable in what we’re trying to do."

Get the latest from Head Coach Mike Blair as he spoke with media following Edinburgh Rugby's 41-19 victory against English Premiership side Bath.

On Pierre Schoeman

I’m happy because we showed a lot of resilience to come back. Blair at 10 is a huge run-pass threat. He was excellent. Schoeman was excellent – I think I’d be good if I had 6,000 people chanting my name every time I touched the ball.

He’s a club icon, he’s consistently up for games, and lifts the crowd and the players.

On Edinburgh’s game plan

We’re comfortable in what we’re trying to do, we’re not changing a huge amount from game to game depending on the opposition. I want us to be decisive about what we do as a team, the fact it’s the league next week and Europe this week doesn’t make a difference.

On slow starts

I said at half-time that I was frustrated, but excited, I’m frustrated because we gave Bath everything they wanted at the start of the game. I was excited because when we had the ball we executed.

We need to understand that in bigger games, against bigger opposition, it won’t be enough to just kick on in the second half. I’m positive about the reaction, but we need to sort out the start of games.

We talk about being in every moment, every decision could be one that can win or lose us a game. Not letting instinct take over, we want clear decision making. We gave away a couple of unforced penalties, so it’s about not giving the opposition opportunities.

On James Lang and Blair Kinghorn

It’s a super strength for the team. Those two work really well together. Lang works in training a lot with Cammy Hutchison and Chris Dean on how to deliver that pass out the back, so he’s also developing the rest of the guys around him.
