Blair: "That was a brilliant atmosphere."
Head Coach Mike Blair heaped praise on the capital support as his side kicked of the United Rugby Championship with a bonus-point win over Scarlets in front of an electric crowd at DAM Health Stadium
The Edinburgh Rugby supporters played a key role in driving forward Blair's side from first whistle to last, helping the capital club secure all five points on day one of the URC.
“That was a brilliant atmosphere,” said Blair. “If this had been on the big pitch at BT Murrayfield Stadium it would have been lost and we would not have had that atmosphere.
“It was harder for Scarlets trying to get back into the game when you have our crowd in the background cheering the knock-ons, cheering the turnovers or cheering our good play. It was great to have such a fantastic crowd and that volume.”
In a complete performance, the capital side showcased commitment to a new brand of attack which saw back Blair Kinghorn, Mark Bennett and Darcy Graham all cross whitewash, while the forward pack fronted up impressively to grind out the bonus-point win.
"There are so many emotions,” continued Blair. “There was some brilliant stuff in it and stuff we will be able to learn from for next week.
"I loved the attitude and the players like Jamie Richie and Conor Boyle trying to lift the crowd and bring them in. That was very important as we rose to that.
“The wind did die in the second half but it was gusty in the first half and the wind will definitely have an influence on our games so we need to be smart with it.
"We could have been smarter by pushing the ball through in the wide channels and making them exit a little bit more which we did not do particularly well but we do have that in the tank.”
“We have got a bonus point win against a top class Scarlets side but there is lots of stuff we can do better."
Edinburgh Rugby will now prepare to face Scottish/Italian Shield rivals Benetton at Stadio Monigo on Saturday 2 October (kick-off 1pm UK time).
