Adele Mertens this week's Local Hero!
During these months of lockdown, it's been inspirational to see so many families, friends and co-workers come together and pitch in towards the fight against COVID-19.
In Adele Mertens case - this week's It's Good 2 Give Local Hero - she has gone above and beyond in a bid to provide those hard working health workers on the front line of duty with a comfortable solution for their face masks.
For anyone that has worn a face mask for a considerable time, they can more than often begin to wear on your ears throughout the day, causing irritation.

So, after hearing these complaints from her friends - many of whom are nurses and health workers in the capital - Adele decided to get to work and begin creating headbands that allow for the face masks to be supported on 'hooks', as opposed to your ears.
Adele and her husband, Sven, purchased most of the materials themselves, while some have been donated by her parents and employers. Adele has so far produced 240 of the specialist headbands, with another 100 on their way!

The headbands have so far been donated to the city's Royal Infirmary, Western General and Sick Kids Hospitals as well as two care homes in the Mertens' local area.
On hear headband heroics, Adele, said: “I felt stuck in these challenging times. In making these headbands, I felt like I could contribute in just a small way to fighting the pandemic”
