1872 Cup first leg postponed
Next Sunday’s (27 December) 1872 Cup first leg fixture against Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun has been postponed.
Today’s announcement comes as Glasgow Warriors confirmed four positive cases of COVID-19, amongst the group of 20 players that are already in self-isolation, and the results of another round of testing this morning are pending.
This follows the cancellation of the Warriors’ Heineken Champions Cup fixture against Lyon, which was due to be played at Scotstoun this weekend.
PRO14 Rugby will examine potential dates in early 2021 to reschedule the derby game.
At this stage, there is no impact on Edinburgh’s home 1872 Cup fixture, scheduled to take place at BT Murrayfield on Saturday 2 January, and we will continue to keep supporters updated through the club’s website and social channels.
Glasgow Warriors consulted and sought the support of Scottish Rugby’s Threat Management Group over the postponement of their game.
In addition, having considered all the available evidence, the PRO14 Rugby Medical Advisory Group has deemed that this fixture cannot go ahead as scheduled.
Glasgow Warriors have continued to keep the management at Edinburgh Rugby updated throughout this process.
Edinburgh Rugby wishes Glasgow Warriors the very best and those affected in these difficult circumstances a swift return to full health – we look forward to seeing you back out on the pitch soon.
