1872 Cup 2018/19

Edinburgh lifted the historic 1872 Cup for the fourth time in five years after winning both festive fixtures against age-old rivals Glasgow Warriors. In a one-sided opening encounter at BT Murrayfield, Edinburgh powered to an impressive 23-7 victory in front of 21,000 supporters behind a brace of Duhan van der Merwe intercepted tries. The match undoubtedly belonged to the capital side’s forward pack however, who controlled proceedings from the get-go. Edinburgh followed up that result with another impressive win – only this time at Scotstoun, becoming only the second team to win in Glasgow all season. Captain Stuart McInally grabbed the only score of the match as Richard Cockerill’s side rolled to an 8-16 win to retain the 1872 Cup.
