Vellacott voted October’s Scottish Building Society Player of the Month

Scrum-half Ben Vellacott today capped off an electric start to life in the capital after being voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month for October.

Vellacott has been in scintillating form since joining the club from Wasps this past summer, scoring four tries in five appearances for the capital side, while the scrum-half picked up back-to-back Player of the Match award in rounds one and two.

Reacting to being voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month, Vellacott, said: “Yeah I’m honestly really over the moon. It’s been an absolute pleasure and I’m glad the fans have supported me throughout this whole month. I’ve really enjoyed myself and can’t wait to crack on once the games start again.

“I’ve loved every try so far, but that one against the Stormers was probably my favourite. It was front of our home crowd and the place just absolutely erupted,” continued Vellacott.

“My favourite win so far was probably the season opener against Scarlets. I think again, being back home at DAM Health Stadium – it’s an incredible place with incredible supporters – and it was obviously against a good Scarlets side.

“We’ve got a week off now which gives us a bit of a break both physically and mentally, but I honestly can’t wait to get back to playing rugby. We’ve got some really difficult but exciting games coming up, so it’ll be great to get started again after such a promising start to the URC.”

Sponsored and backed by Scottish Building Society, the initiative sees Edinburgh’s Main Club Partner generously donate £500 to Vellacott’s charity of choice - the North Devon Hospice – and it’s a cause that sits very close to the scrum-half’s heart.

“It’s place quite far away – it’s the North Devon Hospice,” said Vellacott. “It’s somewhere that’s very close to both mine and my family’s heart, so hopefully this donation will help them continue to do great work moving forward. I’m massively thankful to Scottish Building Society for such a generous donation.”

Head Coach Mike Blair, added: “We’re delighted to see Ben recognised for his fantastic start to the season. He’s been in great form and a pleasure to work with from a coaching perspective.

“The great thing is that Ben is being pushed by the competition that Henry (Pyrgos) and Charlie (Shiel) are providing.

“He has contributed from a leadership standpoint both on and off the park while his performances have added to what has been a really promising start to the URC.”
