Edinburgh Rugby toast renewed whisky partnership
Edinburgh Rugby today raised a toast to Glen Moray as the Speyside distillery signed a two-year extension to continue as the club’s Official Single Malt Whisky Partner.
The popular Speyside distillery is now in their fifth season with the capital club – having joined Edinburgh Rugby’s partner family in 2017/18 – and celebrated the renewed partnership with the launch of a new pop-up whisky bar, which takes pride of place in the DAM Health Stadium Fan Zone on match days.
A new whisky club is also soon be launched as part of the new deal, where fans, players and the distillery team can come together to explore the world of single malt whisky and enjoy a series of special tastings, events and access to behind-the-scenes moments throughout the season.
With the Speyside dram now committed to at least seven years of capital support, Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director Douglas Struth believes it’s partnership that can continue to grow and innovate.
He said: “We’re delighted to extend our partnership with Glen Moray. They are one of the longest standing members of Edinburgh Rugby’s commercial family and continued to back and support the club throughout a hugely challenging pandemic period, where their genuine love for rugby in the Scottish capital was clear to see.
“Given the longevity of the partnership, the Glen Moray brand now feels synonymous with Edinburgh Rugby. We’re proud to carry their logo on our match kit, while it’s also been hugely exciting to see the launch of the new Glen Moray Whisky Bar in the DAM Health Stadium Fan Zone.
“It’s brilliant that we can now look to an exciting future with an important partner and, as a club, collaborate further with Glen Moray on innovative projects in the seasons to come.”
Earlier this season, Edinburgh Rugby fans were able to commemorate an historic 2021/22 campaign and the club’s move into a permanent home for the first time with a special ‘Homecoming Edition’ 15-year-old single malt, fully matured in sherry casks at the distillery in Elgin, that featured graphics of the capital team’s new home, with its signature burnt orange posts, on the pack design.
Having played all over the city, from Goldenacre to Jock’s Lodge, and BT Murrayfield to Meadowbank in the club's illustrious 149-year history, the 'Homecoming Edition' bottle allowed supporters to raise a glass to a truly unique year in style, with bottles available to purchase exclusively at IM Bottle Shop in Bonnie & Wild's Scottish Marketplace, St James Centre.
James Collins, Marketing Manager of the Elgin-based single malt, worked to produce the ‘Homecoming Edition’ whisky and is delighted to see Glen Moray extend its partnership with the capital club.
He said: “Glen Moray and Edinburgh Rugby have so much in common and this is a natural partnership for us both. We are thrilled to continue our support for the club and in particular for the amazing community of fans that are at its heart.
“We have had some wonderful online events and competitions throughout the pandemic, but it is so good to be back at live games and have the chance to meet and share our whisky with fans in person.
“Having our new whisky bar up and running in the fan zone will allow us to bolster even more ‘team spirit’ on match days, whilst the whisky club is going to be a wonderful way to bring people together around our shared values and the perfect partnership that is rugby and whisky.”
