Edinburgh secure Challenge Cup Quarter-final

Edinburgh stormed into the quarter final of the EPCR Challenge Cup with a blistering display against Bath Rugby at DAM Health Stadium.

The English premiership side had their noses in front in a cagey first half, however the hosts managed to wrestle the momentum of the game with 26 unanswered second half points. The win maintains Edinburgh’s unbeaten home record, and secures a quarter final against Wasps weekend of May 6th.

Bath started the game brightly, taking the lead through England flanker Sam Underhill. Edinburgh hit back quickly through Emiliano Boffelli, supporting the effervescent Blair Kinghorn who had broken through the defensive line.

It was Underhill again who put Bath in front, benefitting from confusion on the Edinburgh line. The exchange of scores continued, with Kinghorn scoring a try of his own, scything through the Bath lines, latching onto a floated pass from the impressive James Lang.

Bath hit the front once again, Ben Spencer scoring from the base of the ruck to draw a close to a nervy half.

With a place in the quarter-final on the line, Edinburgh burst into life. Pierre Schoeman led the charge, breaking through at his rampant best to put the capital side on the front foot. The prop got back to his feet, finishing off from close range having put the team in a strong position.

Schoeman’s score sparked a flurry of tries, with Boffelli and Bennett both scoring in the corner in quick succession to secure a firm grip of the game. Kinghorn and Lang were central to the attacking momentum, with the 10 & 12 pairing proving too dangerous for the Bath defence.

The cherry on top was provided by Connor Boyle – who scored his third in two games – powering through a gap in the defence to race under the posts and secure the win.
