Versatile back-five standout Lewis Carmichael enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2017/18 that saw him score a number of vital scores as the capital side secured a return to Heineken Champions Cup rugby.

Carmichael, a product of the Scotland age-grade system, played his club rugby for BT Premiership side Melrose, before making his professional debut off the bench against Munster at Thomond Park in round three of the 2016/17 season.

The lock joined Super Rugby franchise Western Force on a loan-deal in February 2017 as part of his long-term development plan, and was called up to join Gregor Townsend’s squad for the final two legs of his maiden summer tour as Scotland Head Coach.

Carmichael enjoyed a breakout 2017/18 season and signed a contract extension keeping him in the capital until at least 2020. The second-row was named in Gregor Townsend's Scotland squad for the 2018 Summer Tour to Canada, USA and Argentina, where made a try-scoring international debut against Canada in Edmonton.
