A product of Stewart's Melville College - where he captained the school's first XV - Livingston-born Hodgson came through the age-grade system to represent his boyhood team.
Hodgson has represented Scotland at U18 and U20 level. The second-row was selected in the Scotland U20 squad for the 2018 World Championship held in France and featured in Edinburgh's 2018-19 pre-season friendly against Bath at Meggetland.
Hodgson saw plenty of game time during the 2018-19 campaign. The lock made his first XV debut against Zebre, and signed his first professional deal saw him split time between playing for the capital club and with Watsonians in the Super 6 in a partnership contract.
The lock made his Heineken Champions Cup debut in the away victory over Sale Sharks in December 2020.
Hodgson advanced from a partnership contract to full pro deal with his hometown team in January 2021, putting pen-to-paper on a new contract after an impressive start to the season.
