Scotland Sevens stalwart Jamie Farndale has been a reliable figure for Edinburgh, appearing in a number of pre-season and Guinness PRO14 fixtures.
Having made his debut for Scotland 7s at the 2015 London Sevens, Farndale burst onto the scene in his first full season with the squad. He finished the 2015/16 campaign with 27 tries, and was instrumental in helping his side to a first-ever cup victory at Twickenham in 2016.
Twelve months later, he was part of the squad that defended their London title by beating the hosts 12-7 in the final. Along the way, Farndale’s brace helped his side become the first Scottish representative side to beat New Zealand as they came from 21-0 down to beat the men in black 24-21 in the cup quarter-final.
Farndale was selected for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, before being named in the squad for the 2018 Sevens World Cup in San Francisco.
It was to prove a memorable tournament for both Farndale and Scotland fans alike, as the winger provided two unforgettable contributions. His try after the full-time hooter capped off a thrilling comeback to beat Kenya 31-26 – sending Scotland to a first World Cup quarter-final since 2005 – before running over 100 metres to score the try in extra-time that saw Scotland beat France to finish seventh.
The winger is also an accomplished piper, having played in his school’s pipe band.
Farndale was named Scotland 7s co-captain ahead of the 2018/19 season.
