Edinburgh born and bred, Boyle grew up a stone’s throw from Murrayfield and came through Stewart’s Melville College.

He represented Edinburgh at every age-grade and Scotland at U16, U18 and U20 level. He gained senior experience with Stewart’s Melville RFC and Watsonians in the FOSROC Super6 while studying at Heriot-Watt University.

He was named Scotland U20 captain for the 2019 U20 Six Nations, starting all five games and scoring two tries. He then led the side again at the 2019 World Rugby U20 Championship in Argentina.

Boyle signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2020 and made his Edinburgh debut off the bench against Connacht that October, becoming player #1280.

His breakout campaign came in 2021/22, when he became a regular in the Edinburgh pack. That season he dominated the breakdown in the 1872 Cup opener at Scotstoun and scored a memorable try in the EPCR Challenge Cup Round of 16 win over Bath.

A breakdown specialist, the openside was voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month for November 2023 and has regularly captained Edinburgh ‘A’.

His progress was halted in late 2024 by a serious knee injury that kept him out for more than a year.

He returned off the bench against Castres in the Investec Champions Cup in December 2025, before starting at openside against Ulster and at number 8 against Zebre Parma.

His resilience was rewarded with a new contract for 2026/27, with head coach Sean Everitt praising his growing leadership role within the squad.
