Mark Robertson, who joined Edinburgh Rugby in summer 2007, is now a centrally contracted Scotland 7s player, available for selection outwith the World Sevens Series playing windows.

Mark made a try-scoring debut for Border Reivers in the 8-9 defeat by Munster in the Magners League match at Thomond Park, Limerick, in September 2006. Earlier that year, in his previous match in Ireland, he scored a try for Scotland in the club international against Ireland at Donnybrook, Dublin: it was a score for which he received the Try of the Year trophy at the Scottish Rugby Awards Dinner in May 2006.

Mark made his debut for Scotland’s 7s at the IRB New Zealand tournament in Wellington in February 2006, following immediately with his second cap at the USA event in Los Angeles a week later. He helped Scotland to lift the bowl at both tournaments, and he played in also the Paris and London tournaments three months later. He then played in six of the eight tournaments in the IRB’s 2006-2007 world sevens, when he was Scotland’s top try-scorer with 17, including four each in the Dubai and Wellington events.

Mark was educated at Earlston High School and played his youth rugby for Melrose Wasps. On leaving school he spent a year in Australia and played for Central Coast and Terrigal. He joined Border Reivers on an apprentice contract in summer 2006 and later moved to Edinburgh.

His father, Keith, the former Melrose back, was capped by Scotland 44 times.
