Edinburgh's homegrown 'magnificent seven', Ross Michael Rennie remains a cornerstone of the Murrayfield set-up despite suffering grievously with injuries over the last few years.

After impressing on his return from a knee complaint, the flanker agreed a new two-year contract in May 2010 and instantly showed Edinburgh fans what they had been missing with a series of storming displays in season 2010/11.

Rennie's form won him a recall to the national team for the 2010 EMC Autumn Tests and the 2011 RBS 6 Nations Championship before he edged long-serving seven, John Barclay, from the open-side berth in the 2011 Rugby World Cup and 2012 RBS 6 Nations, earning nomination for the tournament's top performer.

A former Edinburgh Academy student, Rennie won his first cap for Scotland against Ireland at Croke Park during the 2008 RBS 6 Nations Championship on the back of a series of man-of-the-match awards in the black and red of Edinburgh.

He played in Edinburgh’s first five matches of the 2006-2007 season, starting with his Magners League debut against Ospreys in September, and was rewarded by then head coach Lynn Howells with a full-time contract. In season 2007-08, he was voted Players’ Player of the Year before falling victim to the injury which ruled him out of Scotland’s summer tour to Argentina and much of the subsequent two years.

A former Scotland 7s and under 21 international, Rennie has previously played for Stewart’s Melville FP and his brother, Jamie has played for Watsonians. He is a proficient skier.
