Edinburgh Rugby works with a number of schools across the city to provide delivery that aims to improve participant’s enjoyment, attendance and work ethic in the education environment.

Using rugby as a vehicle for change, we work on employability skills and developing personal traits whilst building the confidence to take the next steps in to adult life, with links to industry and further personal development.

All this whilst providing consistent opportunities to participate in physical activity and healthy competition.

Our new year-round competition for schools with developing rugby programmes in the Edinburgh, Lothians and Border area, enables and rewards schools for providing opportunities for under-18s to get involved in the game. This programme is aimed at schools that mostly sit within low income areas of the Edinburgh Rugby catchment area and those who do not currently have a full rugby programme that qualifies them for the conference system.

Competitions run through the academic year providing opportunities to compete in standard form of the game down to 7’s competitions. Events are ran at multiple locations around the city of Edinburgh and the Lothians.

The Edinburgh city development team work tirelessly throughout the year to introduce the game of rugby to primary school students and provide opportunity for competition. Edinburgh rugby works in partnership with the city’s development officers to organise events for primary schools across Edinburgh in the quest to provide as many positive experiences as possible. There is an added incentive to participate as teams also compete for a chance to participate in match day activities here at Edinburgh Rugby.

Girls rugby is one of the fastest growing sports with a great amount of work already being done by the city’s Development officers. For the 2017/18 season, Edinburgh Rugby will work in partnership with existing girls teams to strengthen the depth of competition through a 7’s series known as the Edinburgh Rugby East Coast 7’s. In addition, extra work and events will be organised to introduce the game of rugby to primary 6 and 7 girls and develop fundamental skills.
