Rob Moffat highlighted Edinburgh’s ineffectual defensive performance following the disappointing 31-10 defeat at Ospreys on Sunday and believes the team will respond heading into the Heineken Cup Pool match at Stade Francais next weekend (Saturday, 10 October). Looking flat-footed and lethargic in defence, Edinburgh were powerless to prevent Ospreys from running in three tries inside the opening 20 minutes – leaving them an impossible task in order to reclaim control of the match.

Nevertheless Moffat believes Edinburgh can address the problems which surfaced at the Liberty Stadium in time for the team’s European adventure when the Black and Red Army cross the channel to face Stade Francais in Paris.

Moffat said: “I felt we looked a yard off the pace – we are disappointed, but we will move on and focus on the Heineken Cup.

“I felt we gifted them three tries and, against a quality side like the Ospreys, you cannot afford to do that. Defensively I felt we looked naïve and made too many mistakes.

"We were playing catch up and didn't finish off the chances we created. We were also slow to the breakdown and our play needs to be quicker, but we will move on and go to Stade determined to put in a better performance."
