Edinburgh Rugby today confirmed that it is now even easier to get closer to the action at the club’s Murrayfield matches with the opening of cash and credit card turnstiles.
While supporters are encouraged to buy in advance to take advantage of a £5 saving on adult tickets, those who arrive on the day can pay at the gate at one of four turnstiles at the north side of the stadium (turnstiles 1, 2, 3 and 4).
The opening of the ‘pay as you go’ turnstiles is the latest supporter-led initiative from the capital club which recently re-opened the west stand supporters’ bar (with prices benchmarked again the local area) to complement the redevelopment of the supporters’ viewing, which puts fans on top of the action in the east stand and in standing areas around the pitch.
Edinburgh Rugby chief executive, Craig Docherty, said: “We’re committed to putting the supporters at the heart of this rugby club.
“The atmosphere at our games has improved significantly this season with top class rugby and a great atmosphere attracting almost 6000 supporters to the 48-47 win over Racing Metro in the Heineken Cup last month.
“The introduction of pay-as-you-go turnstiles will make it easier for the increasing number of supporters to turn out at our games and enjoy the top-class rugby and excellent hospitality offered to all fans at our matches.
“This Friday the Heineken Cup returns to Murrayfield and we expect another bumper crowd for a crucial match against Cardiff so we’re replaying the incredible encounter against Racing Metro in the supporters’ bar and season ticket holders’ bar before heading out to the stadium and hopefully enjoying another, live.”
Existing bookings during December means the supporters’ bar will be located in the north stand Rowan Suite for the Cardiff Blues match (Friday 16 December) but will return to the Presidents’ Suite for the club’s Boxing Day Derby against city rivals, Glasgow Warriors.
The supporters’ bar will then remain in the west stand in the New Year, starting with the RaboDirect PRO12 match against Ulster (Friday 6 January) and throughout the rest of the season, with one further booking on Friday 30 March for the club’s match v Scarlets.
Supporters wishing to take advantage of the cash and credit card turnstiles are encouraged to arrive early to avoid missing the start of the match (gates open an hour and a half before kick-off).
