Edinburgh Rugby’s supporters are being encouraged to contribute to a collection of Christmas presents to bring festive cheer to the brave young patients of the club’s official charity partner, the Sick Kids Friends Foundation based at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.
** if you cant get your gift in time for the match you can leave it at the main Murrayfield reception up until Wednesday 7 December **
The gifts will then be delivered by Edinburgh Rugby players on Thursday 8 December to bring festive cheer to the children on the wards.
Edinburgh Rugby Chief executive, Craig Docherty, said: “The Sick Kids Friends Foundation is a well-known and established charity in the city and, as the capital’s club, we’re proud to support it with our own gifts and those from supporters.
“The club would like to thank our supporters in advance for contributing to the collection and such a great cause.”
Maureen Harrison, chief executive of the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, said: “This is a wonderful chance for the Edinburgh Rugby fans to get involved and donate gifts for children on the wards. I am sure the children would love to receive a hand delivered gift from the players.
“We would also like to remind fans attending this Friday’s match that our volunteers will be there on the day where they can donate money and buy tickets for our upcoming Carols for Christmas event taking place Tuesday 6th December at Parish Church of St Cuthbert.”
The Edinburgh Sick Kids Foundation will be collecting donations for the teamsheet, at the turnstiles and the Christmas gift collection point at the back of the east stand, where they’ll be joined by face painters, Santa Claus and club mascot Flinty McStag.
Guidelines on how to choose the perfect present for a child in the Hospital:
• Gifts can be dropped off at a collection point on the east stand concourse before or at half-time
• Please leave the presents unwrapped so that hospital staff can decide the most appropriate children to give them to
• Gifts for infants (0-2 years, particularly under six months) and for children aged 10 years or older particularly welcome
• The Hospital can only accept new presents (second-hand presents cannot be accepted due to infection control and associated health risks to the children)
• No food items please – the Hospital has to be very careful around of children with allergies
• The Hospital are always short of presents for babies under six months and older teenagers (up to 16) with the suggestion for over 16s being Amazon vouchers or similar, so that they can spend time choosing a gift
• Aside of this, any presents for any age children is always appreciated
• Thank you
