Sep Visser [right], the 20-year-old younger brother of try-scoring sensation, Tim Visser [left], has been handed his first competitive start on the right wing against Munster at Thomond Park tomorrow.
Sep signed a training contract for the capital after signalling his intent to team up with his brother when he moved from English National 1 club Tynedale to Premier 1 side Boroughmuir, combining his club training with a pre-season at Edinburgh Rugby and making an appearance in the club’s win over Sale Sharks (28-22).
Early indications are that the 20 year-old shares his brother’s eye for the try line, having crossed the whitewsh on a number of ocassions for the Meggetland, continuing his impressive Tynedale tally of 23 tries in 29 matches.
He said: "I'm delighted to get this opportunity as of course my objective since signing has been to push for a first team place, which is difficult with so many top class back three players at the club like Simon Webster, Lee Jones, Chris Paterson and Tim Visser to name a few.
"Getting that opportunity started with my performances for Boroughmuir and now I have to take any chances that come my way for Edinburgh Rugby, starting tomorrow against Munster."
Edinburgh Rugby head coach Michael Bradley
Edinburgh Rugby head coach Michael Bradley added: “Sep [Visser] has been brought in on a training contract so he plays a lot of his rugby at Boroughmuir, which is very good because the club give him good quality exposure. He then gets more technical support by our coaching staff here before returning to play for the club, so this is an opportunity for Sep to play on a big stage like Thomond Park against quality opposition.
“We feel that the time is right for him and he’ll get a good feel for the levels he needs to perform and, after the game, he’ll have something to work towards in the next stage of his development.”
