Edinburgh Rugby are delighted to announce the opening of a west stand supporters’ bar for Murrayfield match-days, starting with the club’s next home game against French Top 14 side, Racing Metro, in the Heineken Cup a week on Friday (18 November, kick-off 8pm).

The supporters’ bar, located in the Presidents’ and Thistle Suites on the first floor of Murrayfield Stadium’s west stand, will open an hour and a half before kick-off and will welcome all supporters post match, while a dedicated area will also be provided for the Edinburgh Rugby Business Club and sponsors.

The return of the Suites is the latest update from the club following the redevelopment of the supporters’ viewing, which puts fans on top of the action in the east stand and in standing areas around the pitch.

Edinburgh Rugby chief executive, Craig Docherty, said: “Edinburgh Rugby are committed to putting the supporters at the heart of everything we do.

“The atmosphere at our games has improved significantly this season with supporters getting within a few feet of some of the biggest names in northern hemisphere rugby.

“The supporters’ bar will complement our new approach to Murrayfield match-days and makes use of one of the best pre and post-match supporter facilities in European club rugby, with supporters also getting the chance to meet players after the match.

“Our opening night against Racing Metro a week on Friday is gearing up to be a fantastic evening for everyone to be involved in Edinburgh Rugby.

“There’ll be free pies for supporters on arrival pre-match and details on a drinks promotion will follow on our website so hopefully we’ll have a big crowd down for what promises to be a great night, on and off the pitch.”

Scottish Rugby Chief Executive, Mark Dodson, added: “We are delighted to welcome Edinburgh Rugby supporters back to in to the Presidents’ Suite at Murrayfield – the first step in demonstrating that the customer is at the heart of our administration.”

While the supporters bar will become the fans’ focal point for Edinburgh Rugby home games, there are existing bookings during December which means the club won’t have access to the bar area for the home matches against Aironi (Friday 2 December) and Cardiff Blues (Friday 16 December).

However, the supporters’ bar will be back with a bang for the club’s 1872 Cup derby match against city rivals Glasgow Warriors, on Boxing Day, and will continue in the New Year at the RaboDirect PRO12 match against Ulster (weekend of 7 January) and throughout the rest of the season.
