Edinburgh Rugby head coach Michael Bradley and defence coach Billy McGinty are delivering an open entry coaching workshop focusing on ‘defence in phase play’ to complement the coaching qualification pathway this Monday (24 October, 6.30pm).
The aims of the ‘defence in phase play’ workshop are to:
* Establish a defence philosophy.
* Emphasise the importance of communication and the principle leaders of the defence
* Focus not only to a system but also the responsibility to identify and adjust to a primary threat
* Highlight the importance of recognising the team members either side of them, and the space accordingly, to prevent mismatches in speed or tackle ability
* The ability to work in mini units in order to keep tight control and identify a system of folding in defence
