Edinburgh Rugby full-back Jim Thompson expressed his delight at running out for the Barbarians against the South of Scotland tonight (Tuesday 11 October, kick-off 4pm) at Mansfield Park to raise money for the Bill McLaren Foundation.
For Thompson it’s an honour to play this game in memory of his “Papa” and he anticipates an extremely passionate and open encounter as he takes to the field alongside fellow Edinburgh Rugby backs Sep Visser and John Houston.
He said: "I’m very excited and honoured to be playing in this game. It’s Papa’s game and we’re raising money for the Bill McLaren Foundation; I can’t wait. We hope to raise as much money as possible to put into grassroots rugby, particularly in the Borders and Hawick.

“It’s also great to have my Edinburgh Rugby team mates involved in the game, especially as John is a Hawick man through and through.
“The Borderers will bring a lot of passion and physicality to the match, the fact they have been selected for South of Scotland is a big honour for them and they’ll be fired up to be playing and testing themselves against a professional outfit like the Barbarians.”
Supporters are advised to get their tickets in advance; prices are £10 for grandstand and £5 for terracing. Match tickets are available from www.billmclarenfoundation.co.uk/south-v-barbarians. Hospitality packages are still available at £45 per person with former Welsh and British Lions legend, Derek Quinnell as the guest speaker.
