Kyle Traynor and Alun Walker launch the new partnership

Edinburgh Rugby and the club’s latest partner, G1 Group, today unveiled plans to bolster the supporter experience by creating focal points for fans to follow the club.

The number one independent leisure operator in Scotland owns over 40 venues across the country ranging from restaurants and bars to clubs and cinemas, including the city’s Three Sisters Bar, the venue for today’s announcement.

The firm will target specific venues in the city, which also include Ghillie Dhu and the Murrayfield Hotel, to create hubs for fans, pre and post match, and for non-traveling fans to follow Edinburgh Rugby’s matches on the road in the RaboDirect PRO12 and Heineken Cup.

The co-promotional partnership also means that the rugby club will receive significant marketing support through the group’s extensive range of websites and social media channels.

Edinburgh Rugby chief executive, Craig Docherty, said: “It’s fantastic news for the club to partner such a high profile and wide-reaching group as G1 at a time when the club is attracting more commercial interest than ever before.

“The group’s established venues offer us the opportunity to engage with potential supporters groups from students to families and young professionals, adding weight to our efforts to spread the word about Edinburgh Rugby and our vastly improved spectator experience through marketing messages and social media channels.”

The G1 Group are a welcome addition to the club’s stable of commercial partners and follow the signing of property marketing giant ESPC and software firm Craneware, and the extension of global asset management firm, Aberdeen Asset Management, kit suppliers Macron and nutrition supplier Optimum Nutrition.

Donal Hurrell, manager of The Three Sisters, said: “Everyone knows that when it comes to watching Edinburgh Rugby and Scottish rugby, The Three Sisters is second only to Murrayfield Stadium.

“We’ve got a massive outdoor telly for all the televised games, the capital’s best barbecue and plenty of food and drink for before and after the match.

“Also, if you can’t make it to the away games, you can guarantee The Three Sisters will be the best place in the city to get behind Edinburgh Rugby.”

Edinburgh Rugby continue their competitive campaign in the RaboDirect PRO12 against Scarlets at the Parc y Scarlets on Friday (kick-off 7.05pm) before the club returns home to face Heineken Cup champions, Leinster, at Murrayfield at the end of October.

A supporter update on the screening of Edinburgh Rugby away matches by the G1 Group will be announced shortly.
