Edinburgh Rugby’s Argentine internationalist, Esteban Lozada, showed off his dexterity with the round ball at Murrayfield Stadium today to kick start an online skills’ challenge ‘Edinburgh Tekkers’.
Lozada showed that footballing talent also runs through the blood of the Latin nation’s sports people, as he kept the ball up in the air with ease while lying on his back! The filmed feat will soon be uploaded on to the club’s website laying down the skills gauntlet to fellow players and supporters alike.
Edinburgh Rugby chief executive, Craig Docherty, said: “Edinburgh Tekkers is a great chance for supporters and players to show off and have a bit of light-hearted fun by submitting and sharing their skills clips on our new website and the club’s social media networks on Twitter and Facebook.
“The more innovative and obscure the efforts are the better, while we’re also keen to see any mistakes and outtakes along the way!”
Lozada’s short skills clip will feature on the Murrayfield big screens this Friday night at the club’s pre-season warm-up match against Ally Hogg’s Newcastle Falcons (kick-off 7.30pm) – U18s GO FREE!
Anyone wishing to submit a skilful effort will soon be able to upload their ‘Edinburgh Tekkers’ at www.edinburghrugby.org/tekkers for a chance to feature in an online skills montage on the website and on the big screens at the club’s forthcoming RaboDirect PRO12 and Heineken Cup matches.
Another first at this Friday’s match is the unveiling of the club’s new east-stand seating and perimeter standing experience which is designed to get supporters right on top of the action and allow them to stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the most exciting players in northern hemisphere rugby.
Edinburgh Rugby lock, Esteban Lozada, said: “These changes and initiatives are all about making things more enjoyable for our supporters and to get the message out there that this is a club of which anyone from Edinburgh and the Borders can feel part of and be proud.
“The supporters will be closer to the match than ever before which is something the players are really excited about. I’m sure it’ll prove a big success in the season ahead.
“We’ve all put in a lot of hard work over pre-season so hopefully we can get a good crowd out at the Newcastle game this Friday and repay that support with a good performance before the RaboDirect PRO12 season kicks off against Cardiff Blues the following Friday.”

In the urban dictionary, 'tekkers' basically means technique and is used most frequently in football in reference to a player's ability to control the ball. The term 'unbelievable tekkers' was made famous by Andy Ansah and the Saturday morning sport's programme 'Soccer AM'.
Up to ten under-18s can go to the Edinburgh Rugby v Newcastle Falcons match for free when accompanied by paying adult, student or senior citizen (free U18s do not require a ticket).
