Edinburgh captain Roddy Grant has been giving his pre-game thoughts ahead of Monday’s first Greaves Sports 1872 Cup showdown against Glasgow Warriors at Firhill (kick-off 5.35pm).

In an exclusive video interview with www.edinburghrugby.org, the back-rower, today named in Rob Moffat’s 28-man squad for the opening derby, said: “It’s by far the biggest game that the Scottish sides play, and to lead my city is a huge honour.

“If supporters haven’t been along before, I can tell them it’s a great atmosphere. It’s the best players in Scotland playing against each other. Both sides really put their heart and soul into the jersey. It’s atmospheric and certainly special.

“It’s huge we lost the two games last year: I can’t put into words how much it hurt the guys. It’s a real motivating factor to try and hit back.

“Physicality-wise, we need to really step up, win the collisions and win the breakdown. The rivalry and intensity are huge, so everyone on both sides is going to be fighting to win.”
