Congratulations to Stew Mel Lions, who won the Scarborough Mini Rugby Festival over the weekend.

A group of 14 P4 boys came through their pool unbeaten, before seeing off Derby in the final to claim a terrific success.

The Yorkshire tournament was played under RFU rules, with nine players-a-side, lineouts, scrums, rucks and mauls. Despite only having had five one-hour training sessions to familiarise themselves with these challenges, the Lions beat group rivals Ripon, Scunthorpe, Didsbury, and fellow Scots Watsonians, drawing with Newcastle side Northern.

A comfortable triumph over Derby saw them emerge from the competition as worthy overall winners, having only conceded one try in their five outings.

Stew Mel Lions recently enjoyed a night out at Murrayfield for Edinburgh’s Magners League clash with Cardiff Blues. For information on how your club, school or community group could benefit from Edinburgh’s community programme, or to request a player appearance, please click here.
