Due to extremely heavy snowfall, Sunday’s scheduled Heineken Cup Pool 1 match between Edinburgh and Castres at Murrayfield Stadium was postponed.
After extensive dialogue with both teams and relevant stadium and safety staff, ERC, the tournament organisers, have decided that the match will now take place at Murrayfield on Monday 20 December. It will kick off at 2pm, and be played behind closed doors. No supporters will be admitted to the game, on account of continuing problems in and around the stadium caused by the adverse weather.
Edinburgh Rugby Club respect ERC’s decision and recognise that public safety is paramount. Scheduling requirements dictate that fixtures under ERC’s jurisdiction must be fulfilled within as short a space of time as possible to the original slot. A considerable amount of effort is being expended to ensure the game goes ahead tomorrow.
Edinburgh Rugby Club apologise to all supporters for the inconvenience caused by the poor weather conditions. Season ticket holders are advised that voucher 7, intended for use at the match against Castres, will be valid for the Heineken Cup visit from Cardiff Blues on the weekend of 21/22/23 January 2011. This will enable season ticket holders to bring a guest to the game on a complimentary basis.
Those season ticket holders who have yet to take advantage of the original bring-a-friend-for-free offer put in place for the recent matches against Benetton Treviso and Connacht may do so at the Cardiff game. AnyGame vouchers are valid for any home Edinburgh match, apart from the Greaves Sports 1872 Cup game against Glasgow Warriors on Sunday 2 January 2011.
