After four seasons of Magners League and Heineken Cup rugby with Edinburgh, David Blair is to take a step back from the professional game when he leaves the capital club at the end of the season.

The stand-off, who signed in 2007, has made some 60 appearances, contributing 154 points between league and European business.

Blair, 25, has represented his country at A team, under-21, under-19 and under-18 level, and had a spell with Sale Sharks before moving back to Edinburgh, his home city.

He plans to now pursue a career in education, and today looked back appreciatively on his eight years in the professional sphere.

Blair said: “It’s been a tremendous privilege to be part of this environment, and I’ve met some great people along the way.

“The time has come to open a different chapter, but I look forward to keeping in touch with the coaches and teammates who I’ve worked alongside.”

Edinburgh interim head coach Nick Scrivener thanked the fly-half for his contribution, saying: “David Blair is a player who has always shown a very professional attitude and who has contributed positively both on and off the field. On behalf of everyone at the club, I’d like to wish him all the best for the next stage in his working life."
