Edinburgh lock Scott MacLeod has welcomed the end of his two year Test exile – by his decisive contribution in the nerve-jangling finale to Scotland’s win in Mar del Plata at the weekend.

MacLeod, 31, a product of the Hawick club, came off the bench to win his 22nd cap and bravely snaffled Argentine possession at the game’s final lineout to kill off any chance of a late Pumas revival.

MacLeod spoke today exclusively to Black and Red Radio about his relief at being part of a historic Scottish success in the aftermath of his anti-doping violation in 2008 when he was cleared to continue playing but found to have tested positive for an anti-asthma drug which he had taken without gaining the necessary documentation.

Scott MacLeod - it would have been a 'void' not to win another cap

The independent panel that investigated his case found he had used the drug inadvertently without any intention to enhance sports performance.

MacLeod told www.edinburghrugby.org: “It’s been a long couple of years.  I must admit it means so much to get capped again after what I’ve been through.

“If I had finished my career without being capped after that (the anti-doping episode) it would have felt like a void . . . I feel like I’ve drawn a line under it now and can look forward to the future.”
