A youthful Edinburgh XV limbered up for the new season with a lively hit-out against Boroughmuir on Tuesday night. In front of an impressive and well-entertained Meggetland crowd, Rob Moffat's side ran in nine tries, with Scotland 7s star Lee Jones racking up a hat-trick and new captain Roddy Grant contributing a brace.

Jones, the former Selkirk wing and a fresh addition to the Edinburgh squad, was one of a number of new faces to make an instant impression. Jack Gilding, the Scottish-qualified prop, showed up well in the set-piece, while James King, the centre who so impressed last year with Melrose, was also to the fore. Esteban Lozada and Netani Talei, the club’s exciting overseas imports, introduced themselves to the Edinburgh support in the second half, the Fijian managing to touch down.
