Prop Geoff Cross admits he has fond memories of playing at Glasgow – that was where he made his Edinburgh debut three years ago – but now he is determined to knock Warriors off the top spot in the Magners League and the first leg of the Greaves Sports 1872 Cup to ensure the Black and Red Army finish 2009 on a high note.
The 27 year old (pictured alongside Ross Ford and Allan Jacobsen) first appeared in Edinburgh colours in December 2006 against Glasgow at Hughenden.
But the powerful front row forward was powerless to prevent Edinburgh from losing and the team from the Capital have not won in the West since 2003 – something Cross is aiming to put right at Firhill on Sunday (27 December, kick off 3.05pm). For ticket information please click here.
Cross said: “It is an exciting two weeks to look forward to – it is a top-of-the-table clash. Glasgow will be a difficult team to play and we are looking forward to competing against them.”
Cross recalls his Edinburgh debut while on loan from the Border Reivers as being an opportunity to kick-start his senior career and he has gone onto become a first team regular with the Black and Red Army.
He added: “I remember thinking that it was a chance to get on and play and get some rugby.”
Last season, Cross scored an eye-catching try in the previous trip to Firhill and now believes Edinburgh can record a win by focusing on key areas of the game.
He said: “What we want to focus on is getting good ball for our backs to play with and to dominate at the set-piece.
“It is a fantastic challenge and it is going to be a tough physical battle – that is something I’m certainly looking forward to.”
After earning his first Scotland cap during the 6 Nations in February, Cross admits he is determined to finish the calendar year on a high note in Edinburgh colours.
He said: “It is important for me to finish well and for Edinburgh to finish 2009 with a win, so that we can take top spot in the league away from Glasgow.”
