ImageAllister Hogg praised his team-mates after seeing Edinburgh complete a comprehensive home victory over Scarlets.

Scarlets started the game perched at the summit of the Magners League standings, but Edinburgh, with Mike Blair and vice captain Hogg making an impact, moved up the gears and won comfortably by a 20 point margin.

Leading the forwards to a completely dominant position, Hogg highlighted the way Edinburgh had learned from the mistakes which had led to the previous week’s heavy loss at Leinster.

Hogg said: “It was a good performance. The boys really stepped up from last week and it was a lot better all-round. The defence was a lot better, although we can still improve.

“We ran better lines in attack and I think we executed the game better than we did previously. It was our first win of the season and hopefully we can kick on from here.”

Up front, Edinburgh really stepped up to the mark, although Hogg acknowledges the players can still improve upon their performance.

He added: “I think the guys really fronted up; I thought we scrummaged really well. It was pleasing to do so well against Scarlets.

“We acknowledge that the line-out still needs to be worked on. But hopefully we can analyse that during the week and get it right at Dragons.”

After going over 180 minutes without scoring a try, Allan Jacobsen drove over from close range in the first half and Hogg believes the score was the turning point – because it lifted Edinburgh’s collective belief.

He said: “Chunk’s try really lifted the players’ confidence because we had a lot of pressure. If we had not got any reward from that pressure then it would have been frustrating. That is what we needed after the performance last week.

“Chunk took the try well and that gave us the confidence to get the quick score after that. It was good and hopefully we can kick on from that.”
