NEWS | Edinburgh makes surprise Christmas visit to Victoria Primary School

Edinburgh made a special Christmas visit to Newhaven’s Victoria Primary School in the build-up to tomorrow’s festive 1872 Cup derby against Glasgow Warriors at BT Murrayfield.

After receiving a letter from the school’s P6 class requesting a coaching session, Edinburgh players Pierre Schoeman, Duhan van der Merwe and Jaco van der Walt – who all start in tomorrow’s match against Glasgow Warriors - dropped by the school for a very special surprise visit.

Organised in partnership with club sponsor Thomas Cook Sport, Edinburgh provided the entire P6 class with a surprise coaching session, as well as tickets and transport to tomorrow’s 1872 Cup match at BT Murrayfield which sees Scotland’s two professional sides go head-to-head in a can’t-miss battle.

On Edinburgh's visit, Victoria Primary School P6 teacher, Blair Minchin, said: “The whole experience of the players coming in to the school was amazing. I think you could tell by the kids’ faces that they were all absolutely buzzing.

“The whole class – and myself included - can’t wait to come along to the 1872 Cup. The match has been building up over the last few weeks and you can’t ask for a better game.

“For some of these kids it will be their first experience of going to an actual game of rugby. Edinburgh have got some new fans, that’s for sure!”

Prop Pierre Schoeman – who will make his 1872 Cup debut in tomorrow’s encounter at BT Murrayfield – said: “It was absolutely brilliant to be able to surprise the whole class with tickets to this weekend’s 1872 Cup match.

“The game is going to be absolutely thrilling and we need as much support as possible, so to have the whole class at BT Murrayfield cheering us on is going to be fantastic.”
