NEWS | Club centurions deliver donation to Cyrenians Good Food Depot

As part of Edinburgh Rugby’s partnership with local charity Cyrenians, and in line with the Scottish Government’s #BeLikeStAndrew campaign, club centurions and Scotland internationalists Tom Brown and WP Nel today dropped off a donation of winter jackets at Cyrenians’ Leith-based Good Food Depot.

For nearly 50-years, Cyrenians have helped work with the homeless and vulnerable to transform their lives, by beginning with their story, helping them believe they can change their lives, and walking with them as they lead their own transformation.

In the build-up to next month’s 1872 Cup, Edinburgh’s have allowed supporters purchasing tickets to the festive derby to donate either £2 or £5 to Cyrenians Christmas appeal during the online purchase process.

With less than a month go until the 1872 Cup, the club are delighted to announce that the figure has reached over £1000.

On today’s donation of winter jackets, which will be used by both volunteers at Cyrenians Good Food Depot and the less fortunate who they assist on a daily basis, Edinburgh’s Tom Brown - who has made 113 appearances for the club, said: “Cyrenians do so much good in and around the city of Edinburgh and I’m delighted that the club are able to support such a worthy cause.

“From today’s visit to their Good Food Depot, you instantly get the feeling that Cyrenians are a charity who care about their local community. It’s fantastic to see the club’s donation of winter jackets go to such a brilliant team of staff and volunteers.”

Ewan Aitken, CEO of Cyrenians said: “We are delighted to be the charity Edinburgh Rugby have chosen to support in such an inventive and effective way on St Andrew’s Day and in the run up to Christmas.

“Edinburgh is a city of sharp contrasts and this support demonstrates a shared desire to make Christmas a little easier for everyone across the city.

“Whatever we might like to find in our stocking, we all need food, shelter and company to make Christmas work, however much we layer on top.

“It is heartening to know that our friends at Edinburgh Rugby understand that we support access to these things, not just on St Andrews Day, but 365 days of the year”
