Edinburgh Rugby 'A' fly to victory over Sale Jets

Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’, were deserved 19-10 winners against Sale Jets, on the back pitches at BT Murrayfield, in their second reserve team fixture of the season.

Alex Glashan, Magnus Bradbury and Alex Toolis, all got their name on the score sheet in a match which allowed both young and experienced players to get some quality game time under their belt.

The home side opened well, making numerous advances toward the opposition line from the offset. However, it was Sale Jets who opened the scoring with a try against the run-of-play, as centre Sam  James hacked a loose ball in behind  the Edinburgh defence, which wing Tahir El Madhi collected and posted over the line for the five points – stand-off Tom Morton added the extras.

Edinburgh Rugby, once again, mounted pressure on the opposition line, this time managing to come away with some points. Initially, Magnus Bradbury looked as if he had crossed the whitewash, although referee Mike Adamson concluded that the number-eight had been held up over the line. However, from the five metre scrum awarded, Alex Glashan received the ball at scrum-half and ghosted through a gap in the defence to put Edinburgh’s first points on the board. Full-back Nick McLennan added the extras to tie the game at 7-all.

Following a successfully kicked Sale penalty, Edinburgh snatched the lead back before half-time with a try from Bradbury. From a good build-up of phases, the home-side showed great composure as they battered at the opposition line, the attack coming to fruition when the back-row crashed over in the corner.

Half-time: Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’ 12 - 10 Sale Jets

The home side were first to strike in the second-half - taking advantage of Sale being a man down following the sin-binning of their full-back Mike Haley - as  back-row Alex Toolis, battled through the opposition defence, to touch-down and further extend Edinburgh’s lead. Glashan, taking over kicking duties from McLennan following the break, slotted the difficult conversion to take the score to 19-10 in favour of the Black and Reds.

Sale tried to claw their way back into the game, yet resilient defence from Edinburgh in the closing stages of the tie stopped the English side from scoring further.
