Former Italy coach joins Edinburgh Rugby

Former Italy assistant coach, Philippe Doussy, has been recruited to lead on specialist skills and kicking at Edinburgh Rugby until the end of the calendar year.

The 42-year-old former Montauban scrum-half coached at Italian sides Rovato and Leonessa, alongside former Edinburgh coach Lynn Howells and current scrum specialist Massimo Cuttita, before joining the Azzuri’s national academy in 2007.

He then progressed to the senior national squad from 2009, receiving plaudits for his work with Mirco Bergomasco, and combining his role with research projects on kicking technique with the San Diego Chargers, and respiratory control with the Italian Olympic biathlon team.

In 2013 he was recruited by the Southern Kings to join Edinburgh Rugby head coach Alan Solomons during his time as director of rugby Super Rugby franchise.

Edinburgh Rugby skills and kicking coach, Philippe Doussy, said:

“For me, this is a fantastic opportunity to bring together the rugby cultures of France, Italy, Super Rugby and Scotland to develop the players at this club.

“In skill development it’s important that the players aim to be the best in speed and precision, based on good principles, to bring consistency to their execution in a very intense environment.

“For me the key is passion, to always be humble, to set targets and enjoy your job; after all, it is a pleasure to play rugby.”
